In Safi, the disused Ta’ Ġawhar area has been revitalized into a new picnic area and dog park through a community investment led by Project Green and Ambjent Malta in collaboration with the Safi Local Council. The 1,000-square-meter dog park and picnic area emphasize sustainability, featuring outdoor furniture made of sustainable materials, solar-powered lighting and security cameras, and water conservation through rainwater harvesting. The green space, adorned with 30 indigenous trees and 40 shrubs, was once an illegal dumping area and now serves as an accessible and safe open space for nearby residents. The Ta’ Ġawhar Dog Park and Picnic Area is open daily and addresses the community’s desire for a new dog park in the south of the island.
