A once-neglected 1,000-square-metre plot on the outskirts of San Ġwann has been transformed into a vibrant public garden dedicated to promoting the importance of pollination and the Maltese honeybee. Led by the San Ġwann council and Project Green, Pollinator Garden (Ġnien id-Dakkara), located off Tal-Balal road, now serves as a haven for both bees and nature lovers.
The garden features high-pollen trees and shrubs designed to encourage bee pollination and includes honeybee enclosures, creating a sanctuary for these vital pollinators. Visitors can also enjoy an educational experience, learning about the crucial role of the Maltese honeybee in the ecosystem.
The space boasts 92 trees and 276 shrubs, including species like cypress, carob, chaste, fan palms, oak, jacaranda, and aromatic herbs, all carefully chosen to support pollination.
