More Information

Hastings Gardens, a public space in Valletta, is situated atop St. John’s and St. Michael’s Bastions. After entering the city through the City Gate, take the first left and head up the stairs to access the garden. There are multiple entry points. Though not as popular as the Upper and Lower Barrakka Gardens, Hastings Gardens offers a quieter, more relaxing atmosphere with beautiful views and plenty of benches. From one side, you can see the restored Triton Fountain near the City Gate, and from the other, views of Marsamxett Harbour, Msida, Sliema, and Manoel Island. The garden was designed by architect Adriano DeVina and named after Francis Edward Rawdon-Hastings, who served as Malta’s governor from 1824 to 1826. A monument dedicated to Lord Hastings, who is buried in the garden.
