Buskett Woodlands, planted by the Knights of St John, is the only forested area in Malta and Gozo. Situated in a verdant valley, it is home to various tree species, which makes it a protected site dedicated to the preservation of its spectacular endemic flora and fauna. Buskett is also an iconic picnic spot for school outings and a recreational area for families with young children.
In 2023, Ambjent Malta inaugurated an educational centre that serves as a hub to create awareness and knowledge of the environment, including biodiversity and ecosystems. The Centre also aims to empower sustainable practices within the public, particularly schools, communities and businesses. As school children engage in environmental education, they develop a deep connection with nature and understand the importance of preserving the Earth’s resources while protecting its fragile ecosystems. The hub is wheelchair accessible and the opening hours are from 08:30hrs – 15:30hrs. Currently, no sanitary facilities are available within the hub. Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on leash.
On the other hand, Buskett Woodlands have no restricted visiting hours and public sanitary facilities are also available within the vicinity of the picnic area. The site is pet friendly throughout. Not all areas are wheelchair accessible, however Ambjent Malta strives to render various areas as accessible as possible.
